What was the OE radio in my 1982 W126 300SD?

Yup, I just bought another 'Benz . Thread & pictures coming soon, but right now all I want to know is what radio/tape player is original to my car. If anyone has pictures, those would also be a great help.

IIRC, (and this was many years ago now!) ......my '83 300SD came with a Becker Europa AM/FM in it. No tape/cassette/CD player in it.

Previous MBs in our family all bought new, were either Blauplunkt (sp?) or Becker going back to the 1960s.

It should have a Becker "Grand Prix Electronic" stereo:

No, that Grand Prix radio was for 1985 model year and up.

You should have a Becker Europa AM/FM with cassette player. Its all black radio with two knobs. I have one working radio for sale if interested let me know.

Nope. The correct original radio for a 1982 300SD looks just like the 612 pictured, but with flat volume and automatic buttons rather than an up/down click lever. No knobs.

... ya want one? I've got three original 82 SD radios and I will picture one for ya if you like. I think All of the original radios I have are non functional... Jay_Bob attempted to get them working and failed. (southern humidity and sun killed them I'm sure.)

This above looks as what my '82 came with. I can't say for certain, but it is close, if not the one.

The one pictured is almost exactly what came out of the brown car (non functional though).

what he said. it's also called a becker 612 but it's the early version as described; i believe in 1983 (late 82)
they came out with the 2nd version as pictured above. the becker europa (becker 599) was used on the W123 chassis

Thanks guys! I guess this question wasn't as simple as I thought it would be.

It actually is simple. You need to get the build sheet for your car. The option code will tell you what radio your car originally had.

Question

i will never understand why people want an outdated pos modular "original" item, even if they're building a show car. din sized stereos were literally made to be replaced. i know people do this with every marque, but i just don't get it. can anyone try and explain the motivation to go OE stereo?
