How do I access the bulb on 240D shifter?

The PRND21 Light is out on my 1983 240D and a couple of times at night I've been driving in 2nd gear up to 45mph. Need to fix this light.

I had the wood panel on the lower console removed today but shied away from removing the shift cover under the panel.

Anyone do this or have a link to how to replace this bulb?
Thanks...

I could be wrong, but I believe the shift gate bulb on the w123 is illuminated via the spider, the fiberoptic hub that is located behind the climate control...

it definitely has its own little bulb. you gotta remove the shifter panel to get at it. it'll be on the left, just about centered

Don't worry about unbolting the shifter cover, not much can go wrong, though those bolts may not have moved since the car left the production line so they might be a bit tighter than you expect.

There is no adjustment function, etc., on it, so your shifter will be in the correct position in the gate once you've bolted it back in place.
