Buy, rent, borrow basket tool for removing 606 Injection Pump

Hi,

I'm looking for the basket tool used to hold the timing gear on the 606 during removal of the IP. Thanks,

Used to cost around $8

I have a thread on it and I think a source in england to get them for like $9

Also,

look in the tool rental section....

One more thing...

I removed my 606 pump without the basket. I just locked the pump and made sure not to touch the crank bolt and removed them both. the chain will not advance or fall.

I was hoping you would chime in. Do you know what thread discusses the place in England for 9 bucks? I would like to get one. I don't know how something goes from 5 bucks to 200 in a few years. Especially a part that looks like a cut in half soda can. Someone on this site has to have one of things layin around somewhere.

Called all three. Prices ranged from 150 to 303. I did find the lock not for 21 at a dealer--that's not bad. I think I'll just smash an aluminum can in place of the basket and see if that does the trick.

I saw a thread on here where someone fabricated one at home but you need access to some different size steel pipe.

get the lock from ebay, I did. All I did to it was take my hack saw and widen the gap a bit more so it can easily lock onto the tooth.

I called my parts guy in cali for the basket since I am lazy and do not feel like removing it from my 603 (came installed) and they want around 200 for it.

All the basket does it hold the gear in place, nothing special really, I think it can still fall out of the back side of its hole where the pump would be.\

Apparently Samstag got wind of how valuable these tools are.. its such a chintzy piece of sheet metal it makes anything by snap on seem like it was made by the gods

"Special Sleeve to assemble Diesel pump. Please Note: a mistake was found in the special tool price list. This was being given away for a long time. It is now at the correct price. Sorry we don't have any for $10 bucks!"

If and when I sell my 300D I am pulling that thing off the engine and keeping it.

is it the same part for the 603??

If so I think I have 2 of them and will gladly sell one to a member for cheap.
