Diesel911- Thanks for the input. I think its an M type pump as the delivery valves do seem like they would need a special socket to come off. I will take a picture of them as soon as there is a little bit of light outside. The pump it self does look a lot like the picture you posted except that its has 5 fuel delivery valves. The stop lever and the Shut off valve in the same place as the pump pictured. I tried unseccessfully in the limited time i had yesterday to get the ALDA off to get to the torx screw holding the SOV but no luck. i need to get a 24mm wrench to undo it.
Stretch- I am not planning on moving any parts inside the IP if i can help it. I am going to stick around with opening up different SOV and looking inside and maybe follow "the Gears" advice and get the VCV cover off to see inside .
300D-91 - I wish that i could have pulled out the stop lever rod. In my case, it just dropped inside the body of the pump. I will have to fish it out first and then worry about putting it back in place. Your solution will come in handy once i have the shaft back in through the 17-mm hollow nut.

Does any one know if the inside of the Injection pump is hollow around the shut off valve. What I am really scared of is that the shaft, when it dropped inside, might have dropped way down in to the very bowels of the pump. That would make it impossible to fish it out and I will have to remove the entire pump and open it up to look for that part.

Success at last !

I was finally able to remove the ALDA and the SOV. Peeking inside the opening, there isn't much you can make out since its all covered in black. I inserted a magnetic pick up tool with some trepidition . I could see that there were some cavaties around where the rod could have fallen . But , amazingly, the rod was sitting right beneath the SOV. With the pick-up tool, i got it out and then using the same , put it back where it belonged.
I will take pictures once I have had my victory cigar ! I honestly thought that i would have to open up the whole I.P. Its quite intutive how the rod settles in to place once you have a look at the shop manual. Thanks Stretch for those links. I did have the whole manual but i never thought to look in to them .

Thank you all for your input , specially Stretch , Diesel911 and 300D-91. this forum is the best !
