Texas Shindig a success!

I just got home from the first ever (as far as I know) Texas gathering. The turn out was great. I would like to thank Bill and Greg who put the whole thing together, great job! The food was great too, Greg cooked all day!

Enjoyed meeting everyone and hangin' out with all you "oil burners". Next time I'll be sure to have my car out of the shop in time.

Hope everyone has a safe return trip home!

Mike,,, hold on,,, Mr Bill lives in Austin.. I am 30 miles away,,, and just walked in the door... so most of these people are literally still in their cars trying to get home in the midst of "end of spring break weekend " traffic..... LOL..... Greg

Mr. Bill, Thanks,,, it was my pleasure doing the cooking. The turnout was amazingly good, everyone that said they were coming plus a member that only saw the shindig post THIS MORNING...because he had not visited the site in a couple of months.... While it was not sunny,,, the weather was great. Are yall interested in setting it up next year, same time ? Greg

heheheh, I'm as patient as ever. Saw that Austin tag and knew he was and few hours ahead of everyone else, had to chime in though as I'm bored.

Sounds like it was a good showing, and food too. Shoot, here on the left coast we plan it somewhere where it buy the grub ready made, which is OK as that leave a little more time to poke our noses in everyone's car.

Mike, I was pretty much the only one in the kitchen , which is the way I like it...and they spent a LOT of time with their noses under everyone's hoods.....It was a laid back , calm and fun day from my viewpoint... I did not take any pictures... would not want Barbeque sauce on my digital camera.... Greg

We enjoyed it thoroughly. Great to meet everybody and see all the big iron. And, besides, we ended up with a gallon of hot sweet pickles... (Thanks Greg)

Talking MADE IT!!!

I just walked in the door a few minutes ago. My only regret is that I didn't get to the gathering earlier. I had an AWESOME time!! Many thanks to those who supplied the tools that I didn't have due to my own absent mindedness, as well as the compression tester since my adapter needs to be re machined on the tip. I will definitely keep everybody posted as to what I find as the final cause of the consumption problems. I plan on purchasing another valve cover gasket Tuesday, and hope to do the valve stem seals Tuesday as well.

As for another meet next year?? My vote is a resounding YES!!!

By then the ole beastie will be able to get down there by its own propulsion - funding permitting.

Everybody has some gorgeous cars. I especially liked the W113 240D's.

For those who are interested in fuel mileage, the Dodge got 17 mpg pulling the car - a combined weight of about 6000 pounds between it and the trailer. I LOVE diesels!!

Heading that way now to check out the pics. BTW. I noticed that you got me two years newer than actual in the list. Mine's an 80 just like yours.

Why wasn't the 240D towing the Dodge?

Nice set of pictures Bill. Looks like y'all had a great turn out and a great day. These get togethers can be a real blast. Did you have any one driving by just looking at all the Benzes - happens all the time when we do a get together, but for some reason none of the Benzes passing by (that aren't members) stop and ask what's up.

Photo Album

Wow! It looks like I missed a really good time! Well, if there's one happening next year, y'all can definately count me in!

If anyone else would like to add pictures they took at the Shindig to the online photo album, I'll be more than happy to put them up. Just email them to me at simplyshadra@yahoo.com and I'll have them up ASAP.

The pictures look great. I sure wish I could've been there.

I hope you don't wait until this time next year to have another one.

Maybe if I just don't respond to any of these posts so that no one knows when I am not available, I can just watch closely as to when the event will be and sneak in without the event being scheduled when I can't make it.

I'm glad everyone had a good time. I'm on the tour trail again starting today. We have 15 cities left to do.

I sure wish I could've been there.

Have a great day,

Thumbs up

Hey guys,

We had a great time! I want to especially thank Bill, our moderater, Greg (our excellent cook), and Bob who made our buttons for us. Also thank Paul for bringing his copier which I used.

Not only was this a fun get together and got to meet alot of new people, but it was also extremely informative. The exchange of information and tips on how to perform certain tasks on these cars is invaluable. Also my thanks to Tom C. for his technical expertise.

Also, the McKinney Falls park is a beautiful place. We took a walk down towards the falls and walked a little bit of their hiking trails. We need to do this again.
