Head Light Warning Buzzer

On my 1985 300D, I understand that with the steering lock key removed and the driver's door open, a warning buzzer sounds if the head light is not switched off.
Recently I found that buzzer no longer sounds if I left the head light on and driver's door open.
I know the buzzer itself still works as the seat belt buzzer is functioning.
Anyone has any ideas what may be the problem?

David
