Parts Interchange (Hollander? EPC?)

I am starting a used parts business specific to diesel Mercedes.
I bought dieselmercedes.com and am working on getting my website up soon.

Anyway, I don't want to take up the forum with self promotion but rather to make sure that I can serve diesel Benz owners as best as possible.

I'm looking for an affordable solution for accurate and extensive parts interchange information for these cars

After many tech issues I finally got an account setup with EPC, expecting that to be the solution. From what I can tell there's no way to get interchange info through that software.

I'm considering just purchasing some print Hollander Interchange manuals (since I can't yet afford the software) but I'm wondering how extensive these are for Mercedes. These cars have a lot more parts than most other makes. Does the Hollander cover all the little stuff? Is its interchange information accurate?

Or, is there some other alternate solution out there?

Hollander covers the big ticket items that junkyards will pull. It wont have a part number for cylinder head bolts or fan clutch bolt etc.

With the EPC you can enter a part number and do a search and it will bring up every model car that that particular part fits.

this is what I do whenever i look up parts.

Also be careful using Mercedes in your business name. This website got sued a number of years ago when it was called MercedesShop.

How do I do that? I haven't been able to figure it out.

I've never bothered to count but I'll bet a cracked #14 head the typical gasser with US emission controls has far more parts than an IDI MB Diesel, at least if we call the IP one part.

No need to get all huffy. I meant Mercedes in general have more parts than a Honda, VW, Ford, etc, etc

I think you're safe from MB legal action on the name, idk about the website though. I guess if BenzWorld is still alive and hasn't been sued, you would be ok as well.

I was going to take some screen shots of the part lookup but the epc seems to be down, at least for me..

But the basic procedure i think (from memory) was Search -> Part -> Without Vehicle Data -> Type in part number, there is a prefix A on most of them or an N on some..so A0055450532 would pull up a listing of everywhere that was used.

I believe there is even a way to generate a list of all parts for a given car mode. Not sure how helpful that would though.

It's not working for me right now either.
I think I tried that procedure before but I'll try it again later today, as long as EPC starts working.
Thanks!

domains are fair game

You might have got hung up on the "A" prefix thing? When I started using it I didnt notice it at first and it would return a fair number of "No Part Found"

I didn't intend to sound huffy and I admit I have no helpful information for your venture. I'm just surprised that anyone would think a MB has more parts. Maybe a loaded W140 but a W123 or W124? I'm interested in the evidence.

I finally got EPC to work and have been able to figure out their parts interchange system.
However, I'm getting some major misinformation:
-I searched for the part number of a window regulator from a 300CD. It showed that it was compatible for every W123 model EXCEPT the coupe!
-I searched for the part number for a brake booster from an 85 300SD. It didn't find the part number so I found it via the model designation. When I looked up that part number it showed it as compatible with all the W123 and R107 models as well, which have a much smaller brake booster.

The hollander manual also arrived and is not very helpful

Depends on what you're trying to do. Aftermarket doesn't talk much OE numbers. You have to look by make model year to find the Hollander. Then put in the Hollander and it will show the applications.

Hollander won't show what enthusiasts know will work, only applications as sent from the factory.

I have a 78 Datsun Z. I know that any transmission from 70 thru 83 will bolt up. I preefer the gear ratio of certain years. Also, speedometer drive gears will interchange. That info isn't in Hollander.

You will find that there's a few part number missing from the EPC. Likely they are older parts and have been replaced by newer..

Like in my case, the 001 545 79 32 and the 002 545 32 32 cruise amplifiers are not in there. But I know they exists and were used in early 123 chassis cars.
