W123 with om606turbo engine and manual gearbox

Hello everybody, I'm hopeing to get some help from others MB owners from this forum.
My story is:
I bought an old W123("Cobra" how people in my country nicked this car) 220 standard diesel engine. After 1 year of driveing slow i decided that is time to do something so i bought a w210 e300td 97' auto E-classe.
I have the om606 engine for a while now on the car, i tried to fit the auto transmision but had some problems with shifting and ABS problems.
Now i have an 5 speed manual transmision, the car runs quite nice but i need some electrical help: The car starts and runs in a "limp home mode" with no turbo boost only if i connect to the car the gearbox ECU, otherwise if i unplug the gearbox ecu the car does not start.

Does anybody know what i have to do?

jaybob is the resident electrical genius, and he's got a 98 E300, so likely he's able to sort our your issues.

did you keep the electronic throttle stuff, or are you converting to a 603 IP???

did you transfer all the computery electronics over from the donor? my understanding - haven't touched one - is that the 606 is dependent on those machines being in place to operate the IP.

Thanks for the "post moving" i have almoast everything from the w210: Dashboard, full engine electronics, originala 606 pump, AC, Dials. I even had the automatic transmision on but it never worked properly on my w123 (limp home mode). Ill post some pics with the car. For now i can share my youtube video.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAAJcUDfv_8

You would want to put a 603 pump on there and get rid of all that electronic crap. One of the guys on STD made a controller for your auto.

I would really like to keep the 606 pump and see what performance i can get from it. I don't really care about the automatic transmision right now, i just want to bypass the gearbox ecu (TCM). tomorow i hope to find out what the cables from the TCM do. If i can start the engine with no TCM the rest is just programing the ECU engine. I think that the car runs in limp home mode in this moment because is no comunication between gearbox and TCM.

You can't. Put a 603 pump in it with 8mm elements and a bigger turbo and intercooler and you can see 4-500hp quite easily, at which point you will have many other issues (everything in the drivetrain).

I do believe the 606 pump is pwm or can bus but you still wont see that much more horse power out of it, it only has 6.5 elements and weee bity turbo.

Are those the second gen 126 brakes? They are larger than the first gen. I believe that the r108 got both the 115/123/126 style front suspension where the later model r108 must have had the 201/124 style because you could get the 4pots on the r108.

I don't really remember wich generation are the brakes, but i think that i can't mount the 4 pot brakes on my car. I thought about the 603 pump but something just doesn't let me quit the electronic om606. Olso i was hopeing for 300hp with biger turbo and no pump mods.

The pump the W210 version of the 606 has the actuator over on the other side of the engine bay, connected by a Bowden cable. If you can figure out how to rig that directly to your foot pedal you might have a chance.

What I am more worried about is replicating the function of the ALDA as found on the older pumps. I suspect the computer is emulating the ALDA and pulling the rack harder via the actuator when it needs more fuel to support the increased boost.

No way will you see 300, more like 200. GSXR? someone has 6.0mm elements in his 603 and clocks in probably at 190.

Wow.

I want one.

I am curious: what does the "Cobra" nickname mean??

Congratulations on a very cool project .

Sounds like possibly a problem with DAS. How did you bypass DAS? Either way, I'm not sure how you can fool the ECU into ignoring the lack of automatic tranny.

Correct. 6mm elements will max out in the 200-225hp range. LArger turbo may not be required, pretty sure some vendors offer a "chip" (actually, reprogram) with stock turbo at ~210hp, IIRC. 300hp will require larger pump elements, and probably converting to a manual injection pump... not sure if any vendor currently offers custom programming for the electronic IP / ECU.
