odd engine revving

I've got a problem with my '84 300D. When I'm driving, the engine revs suddenly - usually when I hit about 25-35 mph. The car shifts gears fine, there's just that strange revving - which isn't all that noticeable, but seems to be appearing more and more often. Any ideas?

It's when I'm accelerating, and it stops by itself. Usually it revs for about a second, and then disappears. But yeah, the vacuum leak thing sounds correct - I just had a switch replaced a few weeks ago to fix the odd clunking noise it was making when the car slowed to a stop.

Thanks!
