I have to think that if you lost a cooler hose, or the pan breached by road debris, that the sudden loss of fluid would cause the internal hydraulic pressure to drop.

This would cause the clutch(es) to drop out and effectively put you in neutral, no?
yep - the transmission would be free - no fluid pressure = no rotational torque from the converter => no drive

I guess I should have said the car stops driving forward. It does not come to a stop as long ad there is some momentum.

Is Redline D4 a proper ATF for this transmission? You aren't supposed to use so called "universal" transmission fluids.

I always use Shell ATF 134.

D4 meets the 236.10 standard, according to Redline....but it's not on MB's very short list of approved fluids.

had a full size buick, prob had a 350 tranny, blew a line at very low speed, basically ~ 3-4 turns, short stop & goes from home, car went into neutral, shut it off

fixed the line, refill then good to go
