Kick down switch?
Anybody know why the transmission kickdown switch on my 1982 300D blows the fuse if I try to use it?

I'm still not clear on where the kickdown switch is or how to use it. DOH! Do you mean when you push the gas to the floor to get the tranny to downshift? Wouldn't this just be a waste of fuel? Hopefully someone will help both of us!

You and I have the same problem, my '83 does it. I just disconnected the cable from the switch for now. I'll trace down the wire when I get a chance. The solenoid it operates is supposed to be on the back of the transmission.

I just disconnected mine as well, but it would be nice to have every now and then; lots of mountains around here.

You can always downshift, thats what I do.

The kickdown switch is located behind the accelerator pedal, and is attached to the floor. Your carpet may be covering it. Its about an inch and a half, and round. Its located where the top of the accelorator pedal meets the floor. After you floor it, if you push down a little harder, you should feel and kind of click or bump, and the tranny will downshift. I beats downshifting manually when you need to react quickly (if that possible in one of these cars). As for it being a waste of fuel, I guess it depends on if you like to get there quickly or save $$ on fuel. Hope this helps...
