77 240D removing york compressor?
friend has a 240D with an alternator with a problem. the mounting bracket is bent somehow and the star bolt is no longer working so i need to get at it, but the york compressor is in the way.
the FSM says to remove the compressor the entire bracket has to come off, but that procedure seems crappy to say the least. i only had a chance to glance at it last night, can the compressor be motivated to come off some other way? its not working so brute force would be somewhat of an option...

I just crawled under my car to adjust the alternator belt.....I could clearly see the four bolts I believe it is, that holds the alternator bracket to the block......if its just the star bolt....the alternator bracket doesn't need to come off to remove the star bolt and bracket it fits into....

over the years apparently people had been prying on the bracket , bending it to get more tension on the belt? so i need to replace both the alternator mounting bracket and the star bolt. think that could be done from underneath ?

You shouldn't need to remove to ac compressor and bracket to get to the alternator and it's mounting. If you do remove the ac mounting definitely do remove the whole bracket and all in one piece. Especially if you plan to reinstall it.
