ALDA Removal?

Whats the point of removing the ALDA? I heard it increases power once removed, is that true? Is it an easy diy job? Can someone guide me as to where it is and how to remove it on a 1993 300D 2.5 turbo?

Yes it increases power and throttle response in low boost situations at the expense of more smoke if you floor it. If you have even a little bit of dexterity in your right foot you won't make any additional smoke. Its especially handy with a manual transmission. I think it was installed for people who treat the accelerator like an ON/OFF switch. Your 602 should be very similar to this.

Arm yourself with a 24mm wrench and a 27mm wrench....it can be very difficult to break free.

Or, just arm yourself with a screw driver and a hammer. The best car i ever had, a 1993 black on black country club owner 1993 300D , had trouble running and I fixed it by chiseling off the alda with a screw driver and a hammer in the driveway in about 10 minutes, think opening a can with a swiss army knife on a campout. The 1993 has that dashpot model that seems to clog easier. The benefit is its easier to disable.

That car i got 4 years ago and the owner thought it needed an engine. It had 250,000 or so. I drove it a year and a half or so and sold it and is still going, no issues, with the alda still disabled and a definite hand hazzard if you ever put your hand under the intake

it runs much better with the alda off, than with the alda hose plugged... if the hose is clean, there is little difference aside from the smoking ability...

keep in mind, the alda hose, is coupled to the transmission vacuum tranducer for firmer shifting... so, if the alda is disabled, be SURE you reroute the alda pressure correctly to the tranducer, or remove all of the tranducer mess, and recondition your transmission modulator...

A '93 2.5 shouldn't have a transducer.

93 don't have the transducer mess right? If I recall i just plugged the vacuum hose off the alda with an official mercedes benz golf tee. Btw, Mercedes golf tees are the only bargain I have ever found at the dealer. I got a bag of 100 or so for 3.59 at the dealer. It was cheaper than the public golf course. If you want to do it right, you have to use a mercedes-benz golf tee.

Its funny to think of the next mechanic looking at it and thinking "Wow, the dealer put a golf tee in here "

The car wouldn't move out of my driveway before i chopped off the alda. Been running like a scalded dog with 35 mpg avg ever since and still going for the last 4 years. Literally, the car wouldn't drive up a small slope out onto the road. I tried the cleaning the alda T fitting first.

Ever since then, if there are any symptoms of no moving when you put your foot on the pedal, the first thing i do is check the alda vacuum lines and then remove the alda. Older cars you have to wrench them off. But the 93, screw driver and hammer is easier and you never have to worry about that problem again.

I have driven with mine on and off and I noticed no difference other than more smoke. If your ALDA is functioning properly and the supporting parts are in good shape, I see no reason to remove it.

You'd be much better advised to use the two-wrench method.
