Heater booster pump function?

I'm using the 617 motor in my 39 Studebaker pickup. I am wondering what the function of the auxiliary pump is to the heater system. Will I need it in my pickup to get heat from the heater?

What are you using for controls?

If your control setup is manual (like in a 240D), then you won't need it.

The pump's purpose is to keep a constant volume of water moving through the heat core when at idle vs when the car is at speed. It helps the automatic control system maintain temperature regulation in situations like stop and go city traffic.

Yeah, I'll have manual controls.

Thanks Jay Bob!

Late to the party, but x2, pretty unnecessary in an out of body swap. I have not had problems with my heat without it in the wifes 300TD, or my swap as well.

Why does ACC need it while manual AC doesn't? I've never looked into it but does the aux pump run only when the monovalve isn't closed?

I did but I'm looking for more. IIRC the manual heater valve is a fixed restriction while the monovalve is something like PWM. I would think PWM can respond more quickly. Maybe the PWM acts too quicly (are there slow acting solenoids?) so steady state is never achieved without increased upstream pressure.

I get great heat in my Yota conversion with no booster pump. Bake cookies on the dash.

Monovalve is not PWM. duty cycles of 1 sec on 1 sec off is not PWM. Don't know when that myth was started.

No kidding. It's a heater, not a guided missile.
