1998 E300td glow plug caps/connectors

I am in the middle of changing out the glow plugs and have realized that I can't remove the caps. When I researched the past few days all of the posts stated that this was the easy part. Well, I haven't figured it out yet. According to other posts I am simply suppose to squeeze the sides of the connector and it should slide right off...I had no such luck. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The glow plug connectors are repairable.

the plastic shell is 019 545 54 28
and the "round pin bushing" (the electrical contact) is 003 545 26 26
