w123 coupe main door seals

Hello,

Ive posted a few threads on this prepping... Got the Thai seals - buyer beware, they were claimed to have flannel like OE on them, but when I got them, they did not. Seller told me that the flannel wasnt holding up as they would like, so they went back to old style.

Anyway, I think Ill install them anyway and see. I figured that I had $600 to gain (in savings) by using them vs. OE seals, and only $400 to lose if they weren't that great.

So, I havent seen a thread or a section in the FSM that really tells you - how do you remove and replace the main window door seals? This is the big one that goes over top of the door and quarter windows.

Thanks!

Thanks

Me too, pretty please. Also do they offer the seals that go along the base of the windows? That's what I need most of all...

Yeah, the ones along the base get from Phil. Ditto for the vertical ones that go on the quarters. I paid less from phil for OE ones than Animore wanted for Thai ripoffs...

Not to sound stupid, but how do you get them back in? Put one of the "ribs" into the track and then bend the rubber until the other ones goes? Should I use lube to get them to go smooth? soapy water? krytox?

Ill try to get pics tonight...

Ease it in the channel... mild soapy water helps. Thanks for the pics!

Overall assessment is that it is a good rubber part, wet-extruded and uncleaned (you can see the water marks on the parts in the pictures). The rubber is soft but not so soft that it would wear fast. It feels like high-quality.

Not sure what the felt would really do for me anyway... Animore, the seller offered a refund, but I think Ill keep them and give them a try.

So given that Ive not removed one yet, can you help me visualize? Do I pull it "through" the channel to get it out, or do I get the "ribs" that keep the rubber sitting in the channel to pop out and then just yank? Ditto for install, if I pull it through the channel, where do I first "thread" it in?

Thanks!

So do you have to cut & add your own short piece for the bottom of the A-pillar? Or is it complete in correct length end-to-end from A to C pillar?

These are the current (MB discounted) prices for each long w/strip:
123-720-01-54 $390.00
123-720-02-54 $397.80

Duh, I know that & that's what not I meant Stewie... that's why I asked about the length since it's not OEM. Let the OP answer since he HAS the part.

the ebay site says you need to reuse that thicker section. Mine is in perfect shape, it is just the over-window area that has hardened up badly.

These seals cost $400 shipped.

I figured even if I scrapped them, Id only loose $400 (or perhaps could sell them if I waned to go OE down the line), and for now, I'm ahead $400. Not as well off as had I just bought OE seals, I guess in my head, but still, if these work out and look OK, Ill be happy.

I was thinking the seals from MB were more like $500 each.
