That material for the seats will be unique for sure. I think it will look pretty nice though on a brown W123.

I bet if you polish the paint a lot of the shine would come back...

Lucky!

I am going to recover mine with this cool black vinyl material I have...I will show the process....pretty simple infact...there's a metal core on in the dash...strip everything off it and then add new foam...then material...

Did some more gutting.....heater box is removed for cleaning and rebuilding.....started scrapping the installation off...well what didn't crumble off....finding some surface rust but pans seem still solid as can be....man that insulation was a ton....I swear with the inside gutted the car raised two inches...maybe next week I will actually be about to fix/repair some stuff to start reassembling....

Bought about a thousand dollars in designer hand bags for super cheap yesterday....flipping those should net me enough to go on a junk yard shopping spree

^^^ That is interesting way to do it....but they left all the old vinyl and foam underneath the new vinyl....I am going to strip all that off....that stuff would just re crack and come through the new vinyl....I will have to look at the dash and examine it closer before my attack plan is hashed...but giving a quick look at it....you can see there in a formed metal core of the dash, and then the top is formed with liquid foam and the vinyl is applied after that...question is how to duplicate that..

That'll make it unique, it'll make you feel at home... even while driving

Here is another "unique" Benz I found on CL the other day. This guy managed to make his car look like a knockoff fancy suitcase... or hand bag

Well didn't get anything done today, I decided to take the new rear windshield gasket I had on this car and install it in my 78....I had it siliconed up like mad till I was able to afford a replacement....figured since I had to get new glass for this guy, I would show the other gal some attention....boy that old gasket was in super good...it was hard...the gasket glued itself from heat to the glass and frame....then I had all the silicone I stuck on it....whew that was a four hour job....looks nice now...and no more leaks come monsoon season....

Checked the other hardware store for the insulation....no go there....so I will be needing to order that..

I do love this couple! I also found out in my disassembling that this guy is an 1982....just like my other one...sold for the model year 1979 but manufactured 1978.

I finally got all the insulation scrapped off the car...and only got one blister in the process. I was thinking of doing this on my 78 but boy....I just don't know....guess how much the insulation weighed? 45lbs.....yep 45lbs.....if you want a way to reduce weight...this is a sure way to do it....

Once I get the glass in, I will wash the whole inside down, treat the little bit of surface rust and then install the new insulation....which will maybe weigh 20lbs...

I also started to rebuild the heater box. Not to hard, all the flaps are covered with foam....the best thing to use to fix this is fun foam sheets in the craft section. Typical weather stripping will replace all the other stuff. I suggest if your not good at puzzles, that you don't tackle this project....the thing is a giant jigsaw puzzle. My heater core is in excellant shape....cleaned it all out with hot water and cleaner..

That interior swath looks suspiciously like what my '72 Mercury Montego came with.

So radio delete was a factory option on the W123. That brings some possibilities to mind. I wish I had a garage and a third vehicle so I could go to town redoing mine like that.

wow great progress! im glad to see you are putting this work back into her. Keep as many of these cars on the road.

By chance could you get the Mercedes part number that is on that firewall grommet that is on the passenger side on the firewall? Its the big one that the AC lines normally run though but are not on your car.

Thank!!!

Those floorpans look great. Nice work!

Did you just use a scraper or some solvent to get the insulation off?
