Just drove friend's Tesla Model S....OH MY!

The title sums it up....let's just say my commitment to never buying newer cars has suffered a serious setback! (though my bank account would never permit me to do otherwise)

Better not drive a TDI -6speed, I did, and now look what happened (see sig)

I imagine the tesla is amazing. I've ridden in a few electric cars, and the torque/feel is incredible....

Im also kind of spoiled.

I once drove a W124 e320 with manual dog leg transmission.

Nothing can compare. I can imagine the Tesla being an amazing drive. Raw Brute torque and eerie silence.

It was just rated best car ever tested in Consumer Reports, has a range of about 200 miles and costs about $90K.
Long-term reliability is unknown.
Wonder how much a new battery is.
Better hope it fails before the warranty is up!

In addition to the sheer performance, the lack of any need for regular maintenance plus the free charging stations is pretty attractive.

One example: because of the way the braking is designed, it's estimated you could go 200k miles before getting a brake job.

Only two fluids: brake fluid that's completely sealed and never needs to be replaced and windshield wiper fluid.

They RECOMMEND you bring it to them once a year to take a look at it....but you don't really need to and you won't void the warranty if you don't.

Isn't Consumer Reports connected to Ralph Nader?

200 mile range before you have to charge it for ten hours.

Costs more than a new 911 Carrera, but tops out about 40 mph slower.

I think I'll keep my 300D.

No. CR actually precedes Ralphie.

no. try 40 minutes. when was the last time you drove 200 miles in one run? mine was "just" a couple of months ago, but i live in Texas which is larger than most countries. shoot, the drive to the family ranch in southwest Texas one way is under 200 miles and it's 20 miles to the nearest gas station...there's 'lec-tris-city at the ranch house. range anxiety much? lol. when i had my 1977 dodge ramcharger 4x4 with 360 v8, its range was around 200 miles (11mpg highway). :eshrug:

I see at least one of these on a daily basis. Very impressive car, the first one I saw I thought was a Maserati just from the beautiful lines. I knew it wasn't because it drove by without breaking down......
