IS wagon linkage different than other linkage for 617 turbo?

I have been reading chapter 30-300 of the 617 service manual and it says that in the picture the #14 rod is suppossed to be adjusted to 140mm....except the rod (#14) on the 85 wagon is only around 70mm when adjusted to full length....could it be that the manual is different for a wagon or even yet for a turbo motor in regards to the linkage on the valve cover. I am really not sure what year or model engine this manual is for, i thought it was for a 1983 300D which I always assumed meant it would be for a turbo 617. The car worked fine before we started messing with the linkage, and now I have messed with it and would like to adjust it properly again. It. Seems to lack power, since I messed with it and the transmission does'nt seem to want to engage passing gear. I think that the #14 rod I messed with is for the transmission, but am not sure.

.

its engine related not chassis,..n/a and a has different setup
someone maybe slap in different bar in your current setup.

either way, first make sure that IP has full travel and afterwards adjust
bowden cable by feel. It should work.

cheers,
ChO

There is no rod controlling the transmission on a 85...that was only the early w123's. Adjust the rod going from the valve cover to the injection pump....undo it from the valve cover linkage, push the stop lever towards the vavle cover....confirm there is a 5-6mm gap between the ball and socket..

I had the slotted nut on the shaft that bolts on with a 10mm bolt that connects the rubber\plastic, swivel part on the firewall to the stuff on the valve cover...adjusted to far one way....i moved it all the way to the other end of the slotted portion and retightened the nut. It works much better now...I just need to re-adjust what ,I have fiddled with.....so far have eliminated the cruise control stuff since it does'nt work anyways. It is already waaaayyy better than it was before I took the linkage off to get at the glow plugs\wiring for service. I wonder if having a fully functional glow plug system could attribute to better engine performance, or did we do some good fiddling with the linkage?

I wonder if that#14 rod in the service manual is transmission related? Did the 1985 federal wagon get a different transmission than earlier models?

On a 85 there is no rod that controls the transmission it is vacuum and cable controlled.
