86 300SDL transmission swap / install stage
Got the donor transmission out this weekend, which went much easier than I expected, thanks to all the notes others have left on the procedure. Jack stands and ramps gave me plenty of clearance. I found a used motorcycle / atv jack at the local pawn shop that worked perfectly as a transmission jack.
This coming weekend will be spent pulling the leaking and flaring transmission from my 86 300SDL and installing the donor. I purchased new washers for the drain-plug, oil cooler lines and an o-ring for the filler tube. Are there any other items I should replace? Should I loctite any bolts on the bell housing, flywheel/torque converter or flex discs? Thanks, Paul |

Don't use anything on bell housing or torque converter bolts! I don't remember if anything's used on flex disc bolts. Don't flex discs come with fresh bolts with blue stuff on the threads?
Consider new input shaft and front pump seals. You can go crazy with B2 piston seals, secondary pump seals, kickdown switch seal, etc. if the car's a keeper. Sixto MB-less |
