Timing Chain Master Link Question

Hello to the group. This is the first time crimping the new timing chain I've installed on my 240D. The master link that came with the chain includes the two oval links that are to be placed in the middle of the link and at the end of the master link pins.

Prior to placing the master link through the chain itself I wanted to see how the 2 oval links would fit over the master pins. I could not get them on by pressing with my fingers. Are they supposed to be that tight going onto the pins when using the crimping tool?

Thanks
