It looks like it is an original factory long version. A bit difficult to tell from the pictures but it looks about right...

Easily worth that - but it is unfortunately in Maine and it is a Mercedes so I wouldn't expect much to be left.

Hmmm, so sad. My dogs would love it.

At one time there were a fair number of w123s banging around in Maine. A friend worked down there on and off, and dragged a few back up to Canada with him.

Well if it actually is a 200D and not a 300D then the engine isn't original - but the body looks right.

I'd say it came from Germany and got shipped back by the military after a drunken effects of Oktoberfest!

Are you sure? I am pretty certain there are stretch cars in use in the middle east as taxis in 200d spec.

Possibly not even officially. I hear all sorts of things used to end up on the Hercs coming back across the pond, in the good old days before someone reminded the military it wasn't their money....

(And I have only heard some old Canadian air force stories, cannot imagine what it was probably like for other countries with big militaries....)

We used to have old fuel tanks modified for baggage and contraband slung under our jets...

{wipes away a tear} / {sigh} those were the days...

Now writing 50 times on the blackboard:

"I will resist the urge to ask Stretch if he is sure about something."

I have an acquaintance whose father had such a serious drinking problem, when he was a tank commander stationed in Germany, that one weekend he sold his tank to a bunch of criminals in a small town bar. Yes, an armoured Canadian battle tank, presumably about the same as whatever the Brits had just finished using in the 1960s (our military has a proud tradition of buying up whatever used crap the Brits are too smart to try and fix anymore). And I mean armoured in the sense he had live rounds on board.

He actually never did time, as the story had legs in Germany and the military just quietly shipped him back home immediately and kicked him out, rather than risk the facts becoming public through the court martial. Or any senior officer having to explain it in the first place.

Oh please don't start thinking like that. This is a forum not "the law". If you're not sure or want further evidence or proof you should really ask for it. Even in this thread consider the situation that perhaps the guy who complied the "evidence" to which I refer missed out the section that shows long chassis W123 200Ds!

May be he had to "sell" it to them!
