I have bought glass for various vehicles over the years including a couple of 126 cars. The glass shop brings the glass, removes the old, installs the new, carries the trash away and gives a lifetime warranty on glass and seal. Cost has never been over $200. My friend that has owned body shops and worked for dealers doesn't do his own glass work.
Always ask for a discount. Before agreeing to the deal. Glass men have told me that the glass wholesales for very little perhaps $30 for a windshield. Theis plenty of margin to pay for materials and labor. The shop will always give at least a little discount.

Seal
I had the heavily cracked and dried out windshield seal replaced with a URO last fall in AZ, and it has not leaked at all since then, even after 4 months being in Buffalo now with lots of rain. The oem tail light seals I replaced are another story. :-/

...around here because there's a strong link between vehicle repairs and getting as money as possible out of insurance a replacement windscreen will cost at least 700 euros fitted. If you can't claim on your insurance you are stuffed.

My most recent windshield saga was solved by Safelite. Took three seals: one MBZ, two URO, and two windshields; not counting the original one with the crack; but it finally worked.
![]() The first attempt, they shattered the glass trying to seat the kit into the body, and cut a corner of the URO seal in doing so. Second attempt, new glass, two shipping days later, two installers this time, MBZ seal, it all popped in, but leaked with the garden hose test. They used some urethane to glue it up and sent me on my way. Less than a week later, its leaking again. Yay lifetime warranty. Third attempt, with a different installer this time, they removed the glass and leaky MBZ seal, stripped the urethane, installed new URO and it was right as rain. ![]() My bottom line, its been about a year with no leaks. I dislike the dried out NOS seals based on this experience, and seemingly aftermarket does just fine...as long as the installer is competent enough to get it done properly. Now my concern is with the AC recently repaired, my latest leak is coming from the evaporator onto the passenger floor. ![]()
