I've heard that one floated before. So they still have all the old tooling there in Stuttgart to make me a 2014 OM617 powered 300D? Or then if it is NOS, imagine all the dried rubber bits. *shudder*

I sure as hell would not want a new MBZ with all the electronic controlled/super-emissions/you cant drive a straight line, so here's a beeper to wake up crap. Now, I'd take one over any other make, but over my 30-year old w123? No deal. Just give me the $60k in cash please so I can go buy another one used, and have $55k to put towards maintenance.

Thank God I still have 740,000 miles to go before I have to worry about that nonsense.

I've never heard this. Do you have any details on the program, or the exact stories of anyone getting a free car?

Thanks for all the comments! Some of you asked questions so I will try to answer them all now.

A little history, I bought the car new and have maintained it myself ever since except for the 1500 mile service.

At 400K I took it off the road for 4 days and did the following:
1. Replaced timing chain
2. Installed 2.88 Differential from an 85 parts car
3. Replaced wheels with 15" from 86 420SEL
4. Reset odometer from the 85 to correct mileage and installed it.
5. Spent most of a full day recalibrating speedometer and changing gears multiple times to correct the odometer, Results with 2.88 gears and 15" wheels are 30MPH reads 29, 60 MPH reads 60 with stopwatch and GPS confirmation. Odometer on 100 miles of interstate and GPS reads 99.9. That's as close as I could get it.
6. Replaced rear axle boots.

Other things like tie rods, brakes, alternators, starter drive, cruise control amp, tach amp have been done as needed over the years.

I change oil and filter every 3000 miles! Only 1 time on a trip we were in the middle of Montana and I couldn't find a place that would let me change it did it run beyond that. Finally changed it at 3255 miles. No one but me is allowed to change the oil or put a wrench on her!

Seats have been covered with sheepskins since 2 weeks old. On the 4th set now.

297K got tired of the ever failing bosch alternators and changed over to a GM 15si 100 Amp alternator that has been on ever since.

The transmission has never been rebuilt. Fluid is changed every 25K or annually. Installed shift modification kit at 287K

It is a great car, and has never left me stranded on the road. (limped home a time or 2 but never had to be towed).

I did have her repainted 4 years ago the original color Petrol Metallic.

Wow, so you're the original owner, too? That's really impressive.

I'm jealous .

I dunno....I think delaying to 3255 miles for that one oil change is really going to hurt the longevity.

Oil change frequency at one time drove me to do as the OP did, many a time! It's been almost 20 years now, but I've changed the oil of my 300SD in many a motel parking lot that I was staying at while on-the-road sometimes a thousand miles away from my homebase. I had all the tools/jackstands/drain pan with me, so it was very doable. To this day, I still change out my 7.3 liter PSD's 15.5 qts. when on-the-road in Walmart parking lots. Their auto service dept. takes the oil and old filter for recycling. You just have to be set-up with the few things to do it.

Definitely. I'm surprised that the engine even made it to 500k with that sort of abuse.

Heh, funny... Factory recommendations are 5K OCI... looks like you've certainly babied your car!
