Are the bare motors the same for windows and wipers?

I accidentally fried my rear wiper motor the other day (85 300TD w123 wagon). I may be able to pick up a window regulator motor for cheap, and I thought perhaps I can just swap the innards of the electric motor.

Does anyone know if they are the same thing? They sound about the same, and engineering-wise, it would seem to make sense if they used the same motor for all 6 things, and simply adapted it to different parts.

I know these arent really easily serviced as they are crimped shut. But I managed to take one apart and put it back together. If I had simply needed to replace the brishes for instance, it would have been fine...

Any thoughts?

i doubt it, but don't let that stop you from trying. there are motor/alternator shops that might be able to fix/rewind the busted one as well - if you have one nearby at least get a quote.

Find a used motor, getting it rewound will be $$.

The wiper and window motors won't interchange. However, some cars use a left front motor on the right rear giving you more choices. Don't limit you self to the exact model of car you have, frequently the same motor is used across many models and sometimes across makes.

I was working on a 95 ish Jaguar that needed a window motor, the motor from a 86 SAAB 900 I had sitting around worked just fine. ( Bosch motor )

Well, Im actually just looking for the motor itself, I know a wondow regulator/motor assembly wont do anything for a rear wiper assembly, but if you can actually take out the windings from the electric motor case and use the innards with the Motor casing and assembly for the Wiper motor.

To me they seem to be pretty similar in size and strength, However Perhaps the window motor would be built a little stronger as it probably uses a little more force that just sending a wiper blade back and forth

Yes, I understood your intent, the two motors will still likely be too different to interchange in whole or part. The only real way is to take them apart.

I dont know, but I would imagine window reg motors do not have to be nearly as stout as wiper motors. Wipers might run for hours on end, while window motors dont get very much exercise, unless you have small kids within reach of the switch. Its all about $$.
