Get the group 49/h8 from advance auto. If you buy it online and use a code you'll save up to $50, so it's a great deal. Like any battery, make use it's a recent one, not on the shelf a long time and voltage reads ok.

Here is a recurring thread with discount codes:

I got my group 49 OEM battery for like $160 from my mechanic. I can get them for like $145 from my dealer through their discount website. I'm considering an AGM for my 190E though. $160 at Sams for the 48, $165 for the 49.

Again, check the aap codes if you have one in your area. You should be able to get the 49 AGM battery for around $138 after coupon, and pick up in store. Far cheaper than Sam's.

That AAP promo code is nice. Right now, I can get their AGM for $149 after the $40 credit (the $50 code doesn't seem to work for me) is applied. So, when the time comes, I think I'll definitely put AGM's in the W210's and keep using Interstate blems ($40) in my other vehicles.

Haha. Just call your nearest Interstate battery store....they should have them (although, at any given time, it's possible they will not have a blem of the particular battery you're looking for). I have one in our 91 300D, one in our 02 Odyssey. Both in for about a year, both working flawlessly.

My 1996 E300D (W210, OM606NA) had wet-cell batteries for most of its life (17 years, 285000 miles); there is no corrosion evident under the rear seat. However, I did upgrade to an AGM Mercedes battery (005 541 10 01) in June 2012.

The 1995 E300D (W124, OM606NA) also has an AGM now, courtesy of a Sears sale in late 2013. Both are doing well; I attach a trickle charger when the cars are not being driven for a few days.

I would 100% only use an AGM battery. I use them in everything now whether it needs it or not. Its even more important when the battery is inside the car like the W210.

X2.

Tell him what battery to buy if and when he needs to, and show him how to replace it. Then you dont have to bother with AAA or worry they will throw any battery in there.

Everyone should know how to replace batteries ,air filters, wipers, tires, and do oil changes.

Indeed—my wife came with experience in car care; she even knew how to adjust the valves in her VW Beetle. One of the reasons I've kept her all these years.

On the contrary, I thrive on my wife's ignorance of all things automotive...one more reason SHE needs to keep ME!

AGM is the only way to go on cars with the battery in the passenger compartment or trunk. Buying one online saved me about $30.00 on the identical one, versus in - store paying.

I didn't see their AGM battery for the Group 48 because they list it under H6. Great price.

For anybody interested this is how my w210 battery compartment looked after the previous owner neglected to install the battery vent tube.

Sanded it down plus a few coats of primer.

All buttoned up complete with a fresh vent tube.

I've always wondered why they are renaming those batteries. Perhaps H6/H8 are DIN?
