cargo net W124 vs W123 wagon

I love the cargo net divider for the wagons. I see a lot of them in W124 cars in the junk yard. I'm wondering how different the system is to the W123. Has anyone tried modifying one to work?

I have a W123 with the cargo cover and often wondered the same thing. A W124 wagon with a cargo cover recently showed up in a yard by me. Quick impressions:

One would need to confirm the width of the two units to make sure there were no fitment issues.

The receivers in the roof line for the divider look to be similar.

The hooks on the W124 cargo cover are much wider. As a result, the hook receivers in the tail gate are noticeably larger. One may need to enlarge the openings in the W123 tailgate trim piece and use the W124 trim pieces for the openings. There may be placement adjustments too.

The biggest challenge would be the mounting system on the back of the seat. They are entirely different. The W123 uses two vertical chrome strips with receivers for a hook and locking mechanism. One hangs the unit. The W124 uses a single horizontal slider type mechanism. As I understand, the idea is to lay the seat flat and slide it out the door.

I was thinking about grabbing the W124 set up, but the cover was stuck on the sliding mechanism. As I now understand from a German W124 website this can happen if one doesn't routinely lubricate the slider set up.
