Can I bend your ear?
Did a diesel purge a few days ago and frankly not really impressed, but I did notice the engine sounded alot better with DP in it than regular diesel. I understand that DP is a higher cetane/other stuff and its common to sound this way.
I have a knock that went away while running DP, but came right back after I changed the filters and ran it on regular diesel. This leads me to believe its a combo of many things, but fuel and fuel injectors are probably right at the top of the list. Thoughts and suggestions: open to all but have limited mech skills. Also, did a basic blow by test-oil cap loose- and thought it did well again any comment welcome. This is trying to follow up on a good bit of oil on the head from the manifold and trying to figure out if its the CCV/engine or a turbo seal. Very basic tests that may or may not show anything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMY6y74EnO0 Running with DP and oil cap loose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW7PWSsm1PI Immediately post DP treatment. Thanks for your ears and eyes. Treetops PS When changing filters dont do what I did and make sure the main filter is filled all the way with diesel or other appropriate fluid before starting D'OH (l've read people using all sorts of stuff in a pinch. |

Does the Idle nailing ever go away?
Is there nailing after you accelerate? A small Air Leak will cause nailing at idle. Worn Injector Nozzles or low opening/pop pressure can cause nailing at idle. Late/retarded Fuel Injection Pump timing can cause nailing at idle. If the Injectors have been in use for 150K and never checked it is highly likely the Nozzles are worn out. However, that is not always the case but if they have never been checked it might be time to do that. Low or uneven compression can also cause nailing but you usally have more difficulty starting in the cold. All of the above assumes good quality Fuel. Hunter has a thread about a rash of bad quality Fuel that shows up on the front page of diesel discussion today.
