Timing 2.5TD

I'm going to be doing some maintenance on my 190DT this coming week, and I was planning to check the timing. If I need to reset it, do I need to remove the manifold to release the rear bolt? (if so, I'll need to order a gasket).

I have a 124 but same engine I can just reach it with a socket and a 3/8 drive difficult but doable.

To check the timing you dont need to release the bolt, just if its off.
