W115 240d York Bracket
Hi,
I have a 1975 240d W115 and I am in the process of adding an aircon. I have managed to source one of those massive brackets, I have attached a photo of similar bracket. My question is this, does anyone know if there are more than one version of this bracket? It does not appear to fit on my engine, the bolt holes on the front are about 1cm out... Alternatively, are there some special spacers and bolts that I need? Would really appreciate any advice. |

I don't think you have the correct bracket. I've included pictures of mine (removed from 74 240D) and a W115 240D engine equipped with AC. The compressor is mounted to the bracket using six of the bushings and bolts shown. The lower mounting arm of the bracket has two holes connect to the engine mount arm studs on the block. The upper hole on the same side aligns with the manifold stud. The remaining bolts connect to the front of the engine. Others will have more experience with AC but I think all the spacers required are integral to the bracket.
The engine picture shows the thermostat housing and corresponding hose layout for use with the bracket. If your car was not originally equipped with AC your thermostat housing and hose routing will be different. It should be possible to use your non AC parts with the 240D AC bracket since this was done on 220D AC cars. There is also some interchange with W115 300D and early W123 diesels with the York compressor.
