Tubocharger going out? Loss of power above 85*C

Headed home last night and a sound like a buzzing, almost like a playing card on a bicycles spokes came from the turbocharger. It got really bad getting onto the freeway, but when we pulled off, it quit. That is when the boost gauge which is loose separated from the hose. Could a manifold leak cause this? Went away once I bent over the tube and taped it that way so no more leaks.

Further, have a performance issue after the engine has run at 85*C for a while. Keep at it and becomes really sluggish until you get off the freeway and get the temperature below for a while. Any ideas?

Boost gauge? How do you know it was the turbo charger?

Thank you for asking! I heard it from the passenger side front. Me and Tram figured out it was a piece of carbon that came lose.

We are still trying to figure out the lost of power.

"That is when the boost gauge which is loose separated from the hose"

What are you referring to? The waste gate? Usually whistling/noise is the result of the ARV valve.

Thank you so very much for asking!

I installed a boost gauge a while back as been struggling with a loss of power for a long time. I know the turbocharger isn't working right, as boost curve isn't what it was and way down. A.L.D.A. helped a tad, but nothing like it was in her prime.

Called my Dad, and he can't get help lifting the turbocharger, so will have to drive out, ship up to L.A. (can't remember the shop's name that rebuilds turbochargers), figure out how to clock it for California, then install it with the wagen parked in the street. I would love to have help, but don't know anyone in Sandy Eggo that could. At least be done, well hopefully, before the Portland trip.
