Fuel filters 97 190d

Hey guys, Im about to do a Diesel Purge and filter change on my 190d and I was wondering about the filters. The pre filter seems to be buried somewhere that I cant see - will I have to remove the air filter to get to it? Also, the main filter looks to be sealed in a lot more that on my 84 300d. There looks to be a small brakcet on top that I may have to remove. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,
Ben R

Prefilter is under the air box but should be visible. Easiest to remove the air filter and cover. I dont know about other models, but the om601 is a very tight fit to work on in general.

THe primary will come out like it looks like it ought to: its a squeeze past the vacuum lines I recall. You might have to remove the brake vaccum line bracket. Fill the new filter with fuel to help but priming is not needed, unlike other models.

Thanks for the insight. Ill remove the air filter and take a look - I cant even see the pre filter from underneath the car.

Yeah - the main filter is wedged in pretty tight between hoses and a bracket, unlike my old 84 300D. Ill probably end up removing the bracket and hoping that will leave me enough room to slide the old filter out.
