going to have fairly decent weather tomorrow if breaking/replacing the window is what you choose. not the most fun way to wrap up a weekend, but would be the way I'd go, unless I could find a <ahem> professional with lots of experience.

jonesing for sushi now, no good places down here that I've found, but a couple of good places remain in the Providence area.

good luck & check back

I quit locking my vehicles several years ago. I don't leave anything, valuable or otherwise, in view. So far so good.

Ichigo Ichi in east providence, and Kan in east greenwich are my favorites (though both arent very cheap). I like ichigo ichi the best though, informal yet still a nice atmosphere

Radio theft is the principle reason ive ever had any car broken into. Even with the faceplate removed, i once had a theft where the guy correctly assumed the faceplate was probably in the car hidden under the seat

Mr. Bean.... I can picture it perfectly.

Sakura is my favorite. so not fancy but best miso soup & great selection. get a bottle of sake from packy around corner & have a great meal for 2 for under $30.

So they nuke it with a microwave?

I wouldn't be too concerned with wedging the door, doors have lots of flex and it will spring back. Even if the door yields you can just bend it back the other way. I would no expect it to be bent more than 1/4" once it is all over if at all.

Breaking glass is a mess, you will be for ever getting stick with fine shards.

Now, you could remove the rear glass if it is gasketed.

Is that some sort of nuclear method of sushi preparation? Lol

DIY is the quickest and least painful financially and time wise. Take a coat hanger, bend tip 180 degrees and sharpen with a file, like a fishing hook. Tape the tip of a two foot long screwdriver with electrical tape. Use an old leather belt to protect the paint. Pry corner of door open (driver or passenger front door) and insert coat hanger. You'll have to bend the coathanger as you insert it to position the hook. I have done this on the 300 D you bought from me. Took less than a minute to get in.

A keyless entry system cost less than $20 in parts and an hour to install. It would prevent future lock out problems. I am sure your wife will love it. It's such a great convenience I have it installed on all 3 of my cars.

If the vacuum system is still installed try messing with that. IIRC pressurizing it will pop the locks?

I'd try to fish via one of the passenger doors. If that doesn't work then tape the glass and wait for witnesses.

Do they sell slimjims in RI? I've found them in PA

Thanks for sharing. I did have a nice little grin at your expense!

Im letting triple A have a go. Waiting in the parking lot now.

I had a bad thought though, it occured to me that with the driver door locked, the valve will keep sucking the passenger door plunger closed if theres still vacuum in the reservoir. Since the only way to get in is through the passenger doors, im ready to que up benny hill on my phone for the inevitable door lock getting sucked closed imediately after he pops it.

Since i have access to the trunk, im going to try and pull a line off the vac reservoir to prevent this, maybe i can get it to bleed down

This summer my wife accidentally left her car unlocked at night. The next morning we noticed that the glove box was opened and a USB cable was missing. My car was locked, but was not tampered with.

Locking the door prevents these crimes of opportunity, but doesn't really prevent break ins.

My favorite locking system is completely manual. My old Corolla had manual locks. Since I never had passengers, the rear doors were always locked. The passenger door stayed locked unless I had a passenger.

This was my scheme with removing the plunger. With 3 doors visibly locked and the plunger removed, the 4th door appears to be locked with a quick scan.

Unfortunately, it seems clever until this happens

A funola style keyless entry may be in order. Last year the icing was so bad that several times i could not get in the car unti i walked down to buy lock deicer. I was using a little bottle up in 4 or 5 days getting in the car

JB3 11-23-2014 11:31 AM

Unbelievable. Guy has the car open in under 4 seconds.

Kid shows up on a cell and im thinking here we go, this guy will destroy the car. Looks at the wedge and says, im gonna bend the door. He whips out a 2 foot long piece of flexible plastic strip, folds it in half, snakes it in near the passenger lock, and loops it around the plunger, then flicks the plunger up.

I thought these cars were at least reasonably secure, but holy crap. He was so fast i would have assumed he had a key.

He said its the same plastic you get from an average hard plastic wrapper for a tool. Im going to try it at home later
