I went home and busted out the scissors and cut up various garbage and recycleable plastic i had laying around.
I was able to duplicate his trick, not near as fast, too a couple minutes of struggle, but with stiff plastic from a house door lockset wrapper i was able to loop the plunger and pull it up.

I tried a cut up milk jug too, with a strip cut in spiral around the base, and i could almost get that to work, but it was just a little too soft and difficult to feed past the door seal. If you were sufficiently desparate enough though, with struggle it might work.
I was going to take a pic, but i decided this was so easy its better off not on the web publicly in any capacity.

End of story its easy to break into these cars, if you have access to some recycling, you might be able to get in.

When I was a busboy in high school they used to send me out
with a coat hanger for customers who'd locked their keys in the car.
I got it maybe half the time.

For my MB I've got maybe four keys I've nabbed at PNP that work in
my door. They obviously made a limited number of door locksets.

Its basicslly just a long strip. I cut it about 2 inches wide. Folded in half you have surprisingly remarkable control of where the end is inside the car by pushing or pulling either end once you slip it past the door seal.

You then get it hooked over the lip of the plunger, and buy pulling back towards you sort of up, you can pull the plunger up.

The kid was using a strip about an inch wide, but it was a beefier grade than any plastic i found, though it seemed to be the same type of plastic.

Here is the plastic strip, some trick of the B pillar design points the strip directly at the lock punger-

then manipulate the two ends of the strip to open up and loop it over the plunger-

I have a pretty decent door seal on that side too. and my plastic strip is actually 3 pieces taped together with scotch tape. It was part of a kwikset lock packaging. You should give it a try, its amazing how fast you can pop the lock

That's a good trick - I like it.

I was thinking the old half a tennis ball trick might work on a W123 with working central locking. This used to work well on BMWs but I've never tried it on a 240D...

Here is how to fix this situation... and I may even have seen something like this for sale... but all you have to do is take off that ' lip ' on those plungers..
make them straight.... no place to grab with something simple like strong plastic....

There are destructions on how to rekey all of the locks. I plan on getting some spare parts from the yard the next time I'm there. Both cars with 1 key would be nice.

Plastic pallet banding strap would work great here.

Steel pallet banding strap is great for making slim jims.

Didn't you pay attention in cat burglar school ? You cover all the glass with duct tape before you break it.... preferably from Red Green's stash.....it is the best....

When you get a new ignition from MB, they will key it to the original if you ask.

How much does that cost ?
