break a window or let AAA try and break in?
 

So my 240 is stuck at a sushi bar because long story short- idiocy.

Driver door lock is busted and jammed, AAA guy was talking about trying the passenger door. Problem there is he wants to uss the inflatable deal to wedge the door open and try for the door handle, and im not sure i want to risk bending the door frame. I have a lot of spare glass, and if i bust out the window, i can replace it fast

Round 2 tomorrow since no go on the driver door

Tough call. I've seen the wedge procedure done successfully. OTH, it's a piece of cake to replace the glass if you have a spare.

i've had a door wedged after I locked keys in running car while @ dogpark on cold winter day. tore the weatherstripping a little, less than an inch, but no damage otherwise.

I'd probably bust the window if you have a spare as it is apparently not uncommon for the door frame to bend when using those types of tools, but that glass can be a pain to clean up. You could probably take packaging tape and tape up that whole side of the window then use one of those emergency car window punches to break the window or a drill with a tiny bit.

Was it on your 123?

My big concern is the door is tucked a way under they roof trim, they have to do some serious wedging to get a bar in there

it was an actual wedge & just a little movement was necessary to enable the tool to reach the handle. made me realize how easy it can be to gain entry to a locked vehicle.

If you have spare glass.... that seems like the obvious answer.....

I've had it done before with a W123 and no ill effects.

As a side note, I was able to open up my ex-gf's W123 driver's door with my driver's key although it wasn't sufficient to turn the ignition or the trunk.

I had to have A.A.A., and they damaged the paint, the seal, and bent the door. Busting the glass will be very difficult and lead to a mess. Sorry, but you are between a rock and a hard place.

Definitely stuck in a tough position. I've had vehicles unlocked before with no damage. Depends on the car and the skill of the person who comes to unlock it. I'm not sure what the liability is for AAA when unlocking a car and if they will cover damages caused by their work. A bent door would have taken a lot of force. The airbag tools that I have seen used didn't look like they exerted that much pressure.

Chronology of idiocy, this will serve as a cautionary tale.

For reasons unknown, but probably accident or damage replacements, one key opens the driver door and trunk, a second key opens the passenger door and glove compartment. Ignition went, so 3rd key now starts the car

Two years ago i locked the only extra key that opens the glove box IN the glove box, and then accidentally recycled that key i locked it with.

Flash forward to last winter, i had so much trouble unlocking the car with iceing in the lock that i unscrewed the plunger and left it unlocked all winter. When it got warmer i went back to locking it.

This year i just started doing that again with the removed plunger, so what happened is after a nice romantic meal with the wife, came out to the car, automatically went to unlock it and locked it instead, dropping the threaded rod below the door panel, where is fell to the side and could not come up.

I jimmied with it for a while and something inside the door snapped and fell in, now the lock turns as if open, but the door remains locked.

If you change locks, its worth changing all of them to the same key at the same time. This is a stupid avoidable building for years event.

Fortunately the place has a nice bar, so the wife had a cocktail while i struggled. I can still get in the trunk. Took a cab home and plan to deal in the AM
