I'm trying to decide whether the preglow relay in my 1996 E300D (W210, OM606NA) is the original or whether it was replaced at some point. The picture shows that, although the relay was made by Bosch and is physically and electrically identical to MB #015-545-30-32, it does not carry any MB identification or the MB part number. The identical relay in my '95 E300D (W124, OM606NA) is labeled "Mercedes-Benz," the M-B logo and part number, and a Bosch logo.

The paper label on the relay in the '96 contains markings unfamiliar to me except for the "12V" and the "89 9049 000" which is probably the Bosch part number. The "04.07.06 Q" might be a date code, which suggests a 2006 production date (and therefore a replacement component). Although I have good records from all previous owners, there is no mention of replacing this part.

I'd appreciate hearing from any 1996 E300D owner—what does the preglow relay in your car look like? A picture would be great. (BTW, this is pure curiosity on my part, the relays work perfectly.)

I thought they went to powertrain CAN bus control of the glow relay on the W210.

Definitely by 1997; possibly in late 1996 but mine is very early. Build date 10/95, s/n ~5000. A friend has a 1997 pre-glow relay, it has a different p/n and electrical plug arrangement.
