om602 preventative maintenance/parts replacement?

Hey guys, I put a pause on my other thread due to waiting for parts so in the meantime I was wondering what you guys would replace (besides fluids) in a diesel w124 with an unknown history?

Ex. Should I just instinctivly replace my vacuum pump?

New copper/bronze element fuses. Clean the fuse block as you go and make sure you are putting the right value fuse in each location.
New belts.
Pull and clean ANY ground wire you can find.
Replace brake fluid.
Check any and all hoses. If you start finding bad ones, just replace all you can find.
Check all your brake pads. My 124 had one bad pair.
Pop a power steering hose and replace the fluid and the filter.
Check all exterior lights.
Time now for a 3 minute coffee break

OK good so fairly standard stuff. Anything to watch out for? Should I replace the pump?

When I reached 250 k on my 1992 602 I just thought it was time to do some preventative maintenance. I tackled the front belt, tensioner and related parts, thermostat, water pump, vacuum pump, upper and lower rad hoses and a fan. Actually the fan was the reason to get into the front. I just don't like break downs and take that car out of town regularity. You seem to be knowledgable about brakes, check bearings up front. Oh ya I also did the alternator regulator it a bit of a bear on the 602 but easy when you are in there. Good luck you should have some fun.

Are you thinking of the 61X motors that had an original vacuum pump that would grenade the motor when it goes? Replaced with an upgraded one...

I'm a fan of rebuilding the calipers. Clean them up and new seals and boots. Fresh paint.
