Sun roof won't close

got an 83SD with a sun roof that all of a sudden won't close. It sounded like it wanted to work, so I used WD40 to no avail. It sat while I gathered some tools, when I tried it again there was a small movement, the wrong way.
I took the console apart and sprayed the connections with cleaner, still a no go. I have quit due to darkness and will go at it again tomorrow.
Any suggestions?
