om617+722.6 adapter

Has anyone managed to mate a 617 to a 722.6? I have searched and only found vague references in very old threads so I figured a new thread aimed specifically at this combination would help.

I thought there was something about the starter being on the opposite side? Or maybe I am thinking of the 722.4 and 722.5s? Maybe the .6 has an intermediate plate that takes care of this.. Would be an interesting mating though.

Later .3s, .4s, .5s, and .6s have the starter on the other side. Unlike a .3/4/5 the .6 does have a removable bell housing. Remove the bell housing from the .6, chop it down, chop the end off a sacrificial 617 .3, tig weld together. It could be done.

I thin whipplem104 offers a stand alone .6 controller.

Lol. Why wouldn't you want an aluminum head?

Advanced adapters, in paso Robles or templeton, ca. I believe they can do anything.

Edit: yep. They still do custom work. They may have done something similar before, as diesel swaps are popular.

Perhaps you can go with this route and modify the existing bell.
5 speed manual om617

Or you slice the existing bell and merge a donor bell with the proper starter hump as mentioned above. If you get to that point, I have a couple of 722.118 removable bells with the right side starter hump that I am selling.

M112 engines come pre-attached to the 722.6, and make almost 2x the power with equal reliability and better MPG's than the 617.....just sayin...

So the 112 gets better than 30 mpg then? Look if I wanted to swap engines I would have asked about that, no disrespect but I'm not the kind of person who just goes the easy way all the time, u like the 617 and I plan on putting a 722.6 behind it, I dont understand why anyone keeps steering away from the purpose of this thread

You sound like a jackass.

You do know the om617 isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread right?

Om617 doesn't eve have a cross flow head, or 4 valves per cylinder.

Don't be so stubborn about using a lack luster engine. 602, 603, and 606's are extremely affordable and offer stupendous advantages out of the box.
