The cigar lighter on my 83 300D doesnt work, nor does the power outlet. All the fuses are ok. Any suggesions where to start? would be nice to be able to use my cb in the car....
Thanks

Maybe the connector to the cigar lighter?

If you take the black frame that sort of outlines the cigar lighter (it's behind the cigar lighter and is held to the console using two screws.)

The frame also holds the center console wood down.

Mine don't work either.. I don't know why..

When I was installing a new aftermarket stereo in my 79 300sd I got pretty intimate with the wires.
The voltage to the stock cigeratte lighter was only 7 volts and all the connections in the back were burned out and weak looking. If your car has the ligher in the flip out ash tray than you can pull out the whole thing and visually see the back of it and put a voltmeter on the connection.
For my stereo and for a aftermarket cigerette ligher receptical I ran a positive wire from the fusebox through the firewall to behind the stereo where I needed it.
I would reccomend going this route to make sure that you have the full voltage that you need. For a CB you will be drawing a lot of amperage when you transmit so even going directly to the battery wont hurt.
I set up one of those 3 recptical cigeratte things in my glovebox.
Before you get started you should know that running the wires behind the dashboard is a real mission. I used a coathanger to pull wires through where they were needed. The tightness of the layout behind the dash is much more snug than any japenese cars that I have ever owned.

Well my lighter did not have power , Luckily after I removed it from the console area I found it was just that the plug was not hooked up. Easy fix . Now the backlight and lighter work .I got the 240D back in feb, And have been trying to take care of all the little things to bring the car back up to decent standards. I smoke a cigar once in a while so this will help. Good luck. Hans.

Do you remember how the plug looked like?
Is it a white connector?

If someone with a digital camera ever pulls one of these ashtray assemblies out again, I'd love to see a close-up of where exactly the light bulb for the back light is supposed to be. The last time I had mine out, I couldn't find any bulb. I do have a white plastic piece on the ashtray insert, but never found the bulb. I have good voltage at the cigar lighter; in fact, I keep a Bescor DC voltmeter plugged into it so I can be less paranoid about my electrical system not charging, not glowing, or a dead battery. The ashtray backlight is a small thing, I know, but it's one of those "little things" I'd love to fix. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Bob
