Anybody need a 1987 300D drivetrain?

The rest of the car is pretty much toast.

It's sitting in a wrecker yard in Colorado City, TX.

I have the title in hand.

It was still running after I came to a stop.

Sue the City. The sign post fell onto your car? Seriously, you came out unscathed? Hope you are OK. I need the fan shroud and odd ends in front but the car is just too far away.

If you are going to crash a car, a Mercedes is a good car to be in.
You have a better chance of talking about it later on.

Yep.

I remember a story a while back where a teenage girl was driving a gasser W124 and suffered a head on collision.

The rescuers said it was hell cutting her out of the car but she walked away.

I was on the inside passing lane passing a red F150 when he decided to pass the car in front of him.

He was either passing or just veering into my lane but he didn't have his signal on.

It was a pretty tight sweeper of a curve and it's possible there was some loose gravel/sand on the road from recent icy weather.

As the yahoo came into my lane I had to hit the brakes or hit him because I was already on his bumper.

As soon as I hit he brakes the rear end came loose and I spun 180 degrees and sideways until the sign post stopped me.

If not for the sign I may have rolled for days down that steep embankment.

The front end is unscathed.

At least two tires blew and one wheel has a chunk knocked out of it from the post stump.

All I got was a torn shirt and a couple scratches from the glass in my back.

I'm a bit cloudy headed so I may have hit it on the b-pillar that all the sudden was six inches more inboard than it was before.

I have a feeling I'll be sore in the morning because my back/ribs are a little tight right now.

It happened literally as soon as I hit the brakes.

Did the dude who cut you off even stop?

Bummer on the accident, glad you are mostly ok.

No he didn't.

He may have been falling asleep based on how he was driving.

If he were awake and paying attention he would have surely seen me fly across his field of view in his mirrors.

The guy who stopped was behind me but he didn't see what caused it.

He said he just saw the cloud of dust and debris.

Based on the fact that the curve was a left-hander and it was divided by a concrete median he would have had to have been really close to see anything.

I'll see how I feel after a few days.

I can't rest long though.

Now that my 300D is out I will have to finish putting my 1984 190D back together after my head gasket replacement.

I still have to get the cam and chain back together and finish putting all the accessories back on it.

That should keep me busy this weekend and give me a sense of urgency if I don't want to rent a car again for work next week.

Here's the kicker about today:

There is no car rental agency in Colorado City, Texas so I had to rent a friggin U-Haul 20' box truck to drive back to Lubbock.

That bill came to $199 plus the $30 in gas when I got there for a three hour rental.

This is why I'm getting a dash cam for my next highway trip. Then I'd have the guy's licence plate and evidence of him causing the wreck to go after him.

Tough luck. Don't over do it, though. You don't want to have problems the rest of your life because of a rental car expense. Can you get medical care paid for out of your personal injury coverage? Or maybe even the rental car if you had collision?

That's the thing...I had a dash cam but it crapped out on me two months after I bought it.

Apparently there were some knock-offs for sale on amazon and I got one of them pretending to be something it wasn't.

I didn't get hurt except for a scratch on my back and a tear in my shirt.

I'll only have the rental car for three days plus the U-Haul...total of about $400.

I have my 1984 190D torn apart after a head gasket replacement.

I have the head on but I still need to get the cam, chain, chain guides and all the accessories back on it.

I have all weekend to get it up and running.

Let's hope I get it all right.
