Don't you have anything better to do ? And where are these 7K ones you keep talking about ? Just send me a pm when you find one. Don't post it on the forum.

I'd say there is a trickle. And over 9K plus tax is not a lot over the 10K I brought mine down to. And there is nothing about condition or what needs repaired. I hope not but theDon may need to put 1000 in parts in it before he knows it.

I think these cars are worth way more than what people are paying cause they are so awesome and just cause you think they should be given away doesn't mean i'm giving mine away. Why do they sell so far below blue book? If i reevaluate what i paid for mine removing all the extras I didn't really "need" -- 8K plus 250.00 travel plus 650.00 at the dealer to for central gateway, plus 25.00 glow plug , 25.00 brake light switch , 100.00 misc , 220.00 mercedes battery, 200.00 nav disc, I'm at 9500 or so. I think i got a hell of a deal. If someone had that I might consider it.

You brought my name up in your post. I responded to it.

Fact of the matter is that there are any number of comparable CDIs that could be had for $7K. Several other members here have LINKED to them too in the past weeks. Do a search of mine and others posts on them.

These MB diesels are a passion and hobby of mine. I know what they can be had for, and if you can get more than you paid for yours then, great!

It doesn't need $1k in parts......in the last year the front end was redone, all brake I pads, front rotors, glow plugs, wheels and tires, fuel filters, and the SBC pump. Last owner took care of the car very well.

Sunday I'm going to pull the engine cover and inspect the injector seals and EGR stuff. I see some buildup on the intake side.

Most of the cars I looked at were white or silver or beige or..black.

It's original paint all around and the window sticker lists it as Everest green.

The rear seat bottoms flip up and then the back rests folds flat.
Please take pics, TheDon when at all feasible. I need to learn more about these cars.

I cut myself some slack and latitude when buying used, regards colors. I recall your interest in that Green color MB made.

Awesome. I didn't know they were manufactured in that manner!

Problem with that forum is that it's lumped with ALL the gassers to have to ferret through, regards technical diesel info.

Looks like a great car at a fair price… I'm happy for you and perhaps a tad jealous.

Absolutely. I'm all for getting more than I paid for a car. Oh and i appreciate the bump for my for sale thread I love the MB diesels too and that they can be had for cheap as much as anyone. But your math is off. You say that 9500 is more than i paid for mine. I consider the cost of a car to be what i paid plus repairs, maintenance , taxes needed right after i buy it. I think for most people that is the case. Taxes can vary and be significant or insignificant. So i paid 10500 for mine to set the record straight.

I've seen one post of yours for a 7995 car. I think that is what you are referring to. But that is not 7K unless I'm K means 995. Know what i'm saying?

The manual is a huge book and it's online. Owners Manual: A Go-To Source for Information on your Vehicle | Mercedes-Benz
I read about half of it over a week.

There are no $7K CDI's here in south florida. Maybe in KC or Chicago, but not here. I cheapest I saw was a one owner with 200K+ miles for $8800 asking. I was a dog with few options. There is a large range of options and colors which effect price. Diesel and gasoline have come down in price so people are not so interested in saving fuel which these cars to so well so the market for them in the last 6 months is soft. When fuel goes back up so will the value. I think The Don got a good deal for himself and the previous owner seemed to know MB's and take care of that car. I have inside info ... congrats to the new owner!

The rear seat bottoms flip up and then the backs fold flat.
The rear seat bottoms can be folded forward and then removed to add extra space in the vehicle and allow the front seats to fully be moved aft and reclined. When the back seats are folded forward, there is enough flat space to allow for easy, comfortable car camping.

No. There are many examples with FAR less than 200K. Do your homework here. We've provided several examples. An asking of $7,990 means that $7K will drive it away. Many of you don't know that because you've bought @ full-asking price. That's OK too. There are always negotiating dollars built into the asking prices of used cars.

My CDI was procured almost 20% back of asking. I offered 22% off asking. I bought it in-person with cash. Sure, a lot of you guys pay asking, but you're coming out-of-pocket with a lot of money for the seller when you do, in my experience negotiating the price on used cars. I've never paid their asking price ever - esp. on a used car.

Don't forget that those wheels add value to a lot of people.
I paid an extra grand to get the 18" AMG wheels included when I bought the CDI from Tyler.

Dang Joe,

I hope anyone with that thought process doesn't try to buy one of my cars.....

The asking price is set by many different factors. There's too many personalities and reasons that go into the asking price, to use a "one size fits all" approach.

I've paid the asking price when purchasing quite few of my cars.
If I feel it's a good value, then, OK, I'll pay the price. However, if the asking price is too high for me, I just let it go. I've also found that there is a certain type of owner that I like to seek out. These are the guys who love their cars, have the income stream to buy when new or nearly new, and have records of thousands of dollars spent on maintenance. Their cars are great cosmetic and mechanical condition, an they are proud of their car, so consequently are asking an above average price. To hit one of these guys with a lowball price instantly shuts the door on negotiations.
I know one guy like this, and I've bought three cars from him over the years, each one a great car.

Joe, different strokes for different folks. Dealer negotiations may adhere to your methodology, but you can lose some real gems if you apply it to the private market.

Regard to Joe's new car,

One of my Dad's older brothers is a car guy, was an engineer with Ford, and he told me years ago....

"There's only two ways you will be happy in the long term with your car. One is that was such a great deal, you couldn't pass it up. The other is that the car is EXACTLY what you wanted."

I've found that was a very profound statement.

Jim
