No Diesel Internet

I threw Diesel in the heading, so maybe it can stay in this Forum.

How many of you live so far out in the Sticks or Boonies, you don`t have cable Internet? For us it stops a mile or so down the road.
Since we moved from the left edge of Kali, to the northern part of Nevada out here with the Coyote`s and Jack Rabbits,
we had to go with Satellite Internet.
This doesn`t come up to the level of Dial Up. It is sooo slow, and can`t even get a You tube video to work.

I click on a Thread, the heading comes up, and I have a white screen on the bottom 1/2 for almost a minute at times,
then the rest pops up. back space to the main pg, and she is slow or won`t do it.

I get this quite often.

Failure To Connect To Web Server

I get this quite often, and last night a msg. the satellite was out because of weather or equipment and to check back later. WTF???
had a full moon, Stars were out and clear. Was windy, maybe the wind moved the Satellite. LOL

Been talking to Tech Support yesterday and today, they are in Mexico. At least closer than India.
Still didn`t help much, still the same problem.

So any one wanting to go with Satellite, check it out carefully. This is really frustrating.

Charlie

Our Cell Phone is with Verizon, an older Flip Phone we have had about 5 years.
We get one Bar on a good day......depends which way the wind is blowing. LOL.
Drive down the road about 2 miles then it jumps up to 3 bars.

Have a desk top computer.

We have the house phone through the Satellite also, it work pretty good for the most part.
Even when I can`t get on the Internet, it still works.

We are using HughesNet for the Satellite. It was already set up by the PO. so just went with it.

You guys gotta get with it. I've been running free WiFi Internet access @ home for almost 5-years from my $105.00 JefaTech Internet signal boost USB package. I have a receiver whip antenna on my roof with 20' of coaxial cable run, that pulls-in signals from up to 1/2 mile. Actually, I think it's closer to 1/8 mile max., without LOS.

With my Leaf MOHU TV antenna receiver, that catches a 50-mile TV signal, I've got it made for free everything!

Here in rural Sonoma County, CA we also lack the blessings of cable. Fortunately a local company runs a wireless DSL service; we get medium-to-high speed Internet via a radio connection. Better than satellite, it works most of the time. Hope you're enjoying Nevada, Charlie, when did you move?

No cable internet available here. I have a fast satellite connection. My satellite signal provider has different speed options available at different prices (not Hughes). You might want to talk to your provider's sales department to see what is available.

Go to here: 3G and 4G LTE Cell Coverage Map - OpenSignal
Check to see if Tmobile offers LTE service where you live.
If yes, get the $80 prepaid plan that inclues unlimited and unthrottled data.
Get an android phone, root it and tether away.
???
Profit

Good idea. Steal your neighbor's equally crappy Internet seriously I'd need at least a 5 mile range. Then I'd need permission to use someone's network.

for anyone that gets a bar or two of lte or 4g, give it a try. you can plug in a smart phone to the computer or set up wifi network on it and use phone as the Internet source. It's Called tethering. You have to pay for a data plan. But it's getting cheaper. I get 30 gigs of data a month for family for like 150. I have to have some data anyway. I got extra so I could use it at home. When they double that I can drop my DSL.

Started looking last May, first saw this place in June , got the key in Oct.
4.25 acres, 40 x 50 shop and a 30 x 18 shop...OH ya, there is a 1620 ft shack on it too.

I moved the map around to Nevada, doesn`t come close to us.
when you look south of Carson City it gets pretty thin.

We live in a rural area too and the only services we get are satellite. We have Hughsnet, what ever their highest speed version is. Its not too bad but can be irritating sometimes. It's way better than dial-up, by a lot but a ways off from most urban high speed services. I am a Youtube addict, big time, its like my "TV". So in order to get to watch all the stuff I watch, I have to run lower quality so they load/buffer better and don't use up my bandwidth up. its a trade off. It could be much worse...

Skippy~ As for perception: Drive what you like and can afford. Those who don't like it can supply vacuum to one of your components. LOL

Do you know any neighbors that have cable "a mile or so down the road" that you might be able to share a cable connection with? If so, the next question is - do you have line-of-sight to their property. If so, there are many different solutions for putting up an ethernet bridge or a long distance wi-fi link. Some commercial ones can get pretty spendy (but a quick checked showed prices coming down dramatically since last I checked) but it's also possible to put up a decent DIY Wi-Fi link using a USB WiFi adapter and a surplus satellite TV dish on each end.

With any solution the key is line-of-site.

When I talked to the guy on the phone, told him what I had, was using Comcast.
Told him what I used it for. E-mail, Google searching, couple car forums and you Tube now and then etc....
nothing fancy, no games and that stuff.

Seemed like the package we got was similar to what we had. I could go with one that had more options, but price jump up too.

Looks like I got the 240D package and need the AMG package LOL.

Charlie,

Yer best bet is going to be a Hot Spot Internet addition to your cell phone plan for maybe $15 a month as an add-on.

My cell phone provider is super good. Have a fantastic Samsung 4G LTE Smart Phone that does almost everything on it's own. Unlimited everything for one low monthly price.

The WiFi of my Samsung Smart Phone gets other Samsung open-WiFi signals right here at home too! I sometimes connect my laptop through their signal(s) too!

Super Fast downloads regardless on the signal here!

You hit the nail on the head here!

Charlie needs a repeater that can get the signal. One-mile LOS? That's where the Dish(es) come in I guess.
