What is the culprit of the W123 lean?

So, what should I do to solve this lean? I'm planning on new shocks soon, and would like to also straighten out the sag.

Its pretty rare but it could be a broken front spring.

I'm not sure it's the spring, as there isn't any noise, and it handles fine. Also, I think my mech would have told me during the inspection. I also had MB do my front end alignment recently.

Since MB laid hands on it you could go back to them and ask them.

could also have been someone that replaced only one spring on the high side.... My only thoughts are springs or sub-frame mounts.... but that's just a guess

The picture looks strange - what kind of lens have you used to take the picture?

How far is the vehicle actually leaning?

Have you done a rough calculation and measured the highest part of each wheel arch and compared it with each side?

{could also be a picture taken whilst a heavy guy in the driver's seat ducks down to pick up something dropped in the foot well!}

Haha, nobody in the car. I haven't done any calculations, just eyeballed it. Also, no special lenes. Just camera phone. I suspect body mounts and or rubber mounts. Springs look stock.

Collapsed subframe mount. Compare the left and right side specifically looking at the gap between the steel flange and the rubber facing. Don't need to be critical on the measurements, just look for an exaggerated difference between left and right.

Personally I don't think it's a weak spring, they are simply built too tough to simply sag to this degree. IMO.

What I can say though is new subframe bushings make the rear stand proud, improve handling, especially through corners.

Optical illusion. Your car is parallel to both your sidewalk and the sidewalk across the street. Our eyes naturally compare your car to the house in the distance, but that isn't the correct frame of reference.

I think the effect is compounded by the darker shadow below your right-rear tire. It makes that tire look bigger, again tricking our eyes.

Of course, I may be completely full of %*$& if you have measured it to verify the lean.

A little different, but my 83 300td sags in the back. Every time I get in the car and start it, I can see the the rear end raise who knows how much. The rear reacts to the road slower than the front. It's irritating, but I can't afford to replace them now.

That description makes me think; how does your car drive over, say a speed bump? Does one side react stronger than the other?

I zoomed in on the picture and measured the distance between the bottom of the bumper and the bottom of the tire. There is a definite list to the driver's-side.

To the OP: I like your sig line!

Okay, Mr. Detective. What would you expect to observe given that his sidewalk and driveway appear to slope downhill to the left in the photo? If a car is parked on a sideways slope, which wheels are carrying a greater load? Get out those Physics notes from college, will ya?

Goose- I am teasing of course. I also feel there is a slight lean (probably less than an inch), but it is greatly exaggerated by the optical illusion.
