W126 GenII axles onto a Gen I diff?
Can you take Gen II annular axles and mount them
onto a Gen I diff that had the can type (homokinetic)? I've searched and can't seem to find a straight answer on this. Thanks, Jeff

A qualified yes to your question.
The swap must be done between same size center sections (diffs). 185mm ring gear Gen II axles (w/stub shafts) can be used in 185mm Gen I, provided that both diffs have either bolt-on bearing retainers, or snap ring retainers. 210mm ring gear Gen II axles (w/stub shafts) can be used in 210mm Gen I. Frank,
Thanks for the good info. Does anyone know what size those annular bolts are on the W126? Are they torx or tripple square? Thanks, Jeff
