Whats that sound?!?

This happened to the other day. While on my way to work i was pulling into town after 45 miles of interstate hwy driving and i hear this strange sound. Similar to a belt slipping sound that i have heard many times before but not exactly the same. I take a turn and i hear the sound. I rev it up a bit and i hear the sound. Very strange, but being just like a quarter mile from my destination i eased on. I get to work, pop the hood and find that the accessory drive belt is just kinda flooop flooop floop ing around.

Upon further inspection i find this

I guess the bottom half of that is out on the highway somewhere. Fortunately i was able to grab a replacement off of the 190D parts car.
The belt now feels tighter than it ever did before and I think the engine temperature now stays a bit lower during high load diving.

That piece is the spring that provides the tension for the accessory drive belt on all om60x engines. Like i said.. i was fortunate to have one to grab off of the 190d parts car because it seems to be a dealer only part and somewhat expensive at like $50.

phillytwotank because my name is Phillip and i've been called Philly by a few folks over the years. twotank because two tanks are better than one and because my 1978 300CD "El Toro" is a two tank WVO machine. Back before i got into BioDiesel i was into WVO cars. now not so much.

South Carolina currently but i've lived periods in both Carolinas over the years. Where i'm at now is about as centrally located between both north and south carolina as could be.

Spring Tensioner

I love pelican parts but you can get that identical part for $8.30 fromRM EUROPEAN AUTO in Littleton, Colorado. It's over $50 elsewhere.
