Multifunction switch replacement 81 240D
Has anybody ever replaced their indicator stalk (Multifunction/combo switch) on a 123? I suspect I'll have to do this on mine shortly on my 240D as it is giving signs of developing a short or some similar electrical problem. I've found comments about trying this on 126's but no definite procedure.
- Peter.

It's very straightforward.
Remove cover on steering column, slide it out to end of stalk. Remove cover under the dash for plug and harness. 2 philips screws hold down the switch to column. Unplug harness from under dash, snake it out as you pull out the switch. If you have cruise control, remove and install CC switch to new switch. When removing rubber cover on column you may want to pull the switch up closer to cruise control switch, to give it a narrower profile so the rubber cover can be removed easily. I went ahead and replaced it with new, after applying with Aerospace 303. When connecting the wiring to the new switch keep an eye on the two contacts, and how they are on the old switch. I don't recall the details but I think you have to hook up the wires properly on a spring-loaded contact/terminal. Just something to keep an eye on when you open it up. Some pics for reference: Spring-contact screws:
