Exhaust Fumes in The Cab

I have noticed an exhaust smell while I'm driving. It's definitely stronger in the front seats and the drivers and passengers floor boards are noticeably hotter than the rest of the car. I noticed it a while ago but it had progressively gotten stronger in the past couple months to where it Is now a problem

Type of car is useful for responders.

Sounds like you need to be checking for exhaust leaks. Maybe in the engine compartment first and work your way back

First sign of the exhaust smell, you should have under the vehicle checking it out.
Hot Floor Boards sounds like maybe the Flex Joint has deteriorated?

Yeah, what car?

If a 123/616 or 7 check the down pipe, esp. turbos.

Okay, still inspect the down pipe (item #5) from the exhaust manifold to the muffler.

Where exactly would it get into the car? I've inspected the exhaust, i didn't find any visible holes but where i got the car from it snows a lot so the exhaust is pretty rusty. Some spots have some pitting.

If there are holes in the trunk floor exhaust gas will come into the cabin. Also if pipe does not go past the bumper it will get in the cabin.

But it's definitely stronger in the front. In the back you can smell it but the front floor boards are actually hot.

Just fixed on my 300SD. The plastic pipe running across the top of the breather had come loose. Not sure the 240Dhas same.

Numerous areas in the fire wall to get inside, from below too.

Carefully feel around the exhaust manifold and back with the engine running, listen as well.

He probably means the breather tube at the VC for the blow-by fumes.
Your 82 240 goes to the round black thing on the front of the Intake Manifold.
which is the Oil Seperator, condenses the oil vapor and drains it back to the pan.
Then there is a tube from it to the Intake manifold.
Check to see if it is all connected.

My first answer I was thinking of a Turbo Diesel which has the Flex Pipe. 240D`s don` have one.
My first question should have been, what car model yr.
We can`t see you car through the Monitor, so we are giving you suggestions where to look.
We also don`t know your level of car knowledge or mechanical skills. Is this your first car?
Or are you 80 years old with 65 years of hands on DIY?

You are going to have to crawl under your car and take a visual. Look for black soot leakage
on the pipes around the joints.
Start at the Manifold where it bolt on. Then further down is a joint where it is clamped together.
Farther down is a second one. All so look at the center muffler for holes as well as the rear one.
Look to see if the Exhaust manifold is loose from the engine Block.
