617 motor removal
hello community...
my 1985 300D (sedan) engine died. I thought it was the turbo, so had that rebuilt, didn't help. (i was having a loud metal scrapping noise). I did examine the glow plugs, replaced the battery, and was able to get it started. But after a very short time, like within the day of starting it, it seized and died. Now it wont turn over. I figure i have to remove the engine and asses the damage in hopes of rebuilding it. Since the car was free, this might be a viable option. What my questions are: -Are the any good threads/links on how to removing the engine? -How much of the engine can i remove while its still in the car? (My experience-I have removed/replaced a head gasket on a 300TD, has 25K miles, still going strong). i feel confident enough to handle this task, I'm just unsure about the proper order of task. -Nope to find some help in regards to the order in which i should proceed. -What other things should i think about replacing while doing this job? Any help and time is greatly appreciated. I'll try to post a video of when i had it running, I think you'll recognize the loud metal sound. thank you. |
