2 stroke oil. Super tech from Walmart. Raises cetane makes up the lowered sulphur diesel lubricity. It outperformed many additives in an independent lab that did the results on a diesel truck forum. Someone posted it here awhile ago

I mix it about 1.oz gal. Then I add power service on top. Overkill, probably.
Mpg average 27-29. Gps checked. 180kmi 84SD

Amsoil 15W40 Marine Diesel Oil in the engine. AMSOIL ATF in the transmission and AMSOIL Gear Lube in the differential. I've used AMSOIL in the diesel for twenty years + now with no sludge build up whatsoever. As far as diesel fuel additives, I switch between Lubro Moly and Amsoil from time to time. I also do the LubroMoly diesel purge which helps keep injectors clean.

I searched the archives but didn't find a recent discussion so I thought I would ask, see if anything new has come on the market that people like and trust.

My two engines are great. I'd like them to stay that way. Beyond reg maintenance, I was wondering if there was anything else I could do to keep them happy. Particularly since I haven't always owned them and only trust one of the POs out of 5 POs between them. They could have some built up stuff in there.
Additives for what? Fuel? Oil? Transmission?

Synthetic oil in the crank case helps starting. Mine would not start until I switched to synthetic. Now they hit right away usually on 1 glow but we don't have really cold weather compared to places that qualify as "cold".

I have used Kreen on my OM606 to cleanup sludge built up with great results. I also ran an ounce every time I filled up. With 300k Miles it still has no leaks or issues. Gave the car away to my nephew and he is still bragging about it.

I run anti gel when the temp gets into the teens, and frequently when it gets under freezing, just because around here the weather can take an unexpected low dip easily.

Here in Oregon we have a B5 mandate - all diesel is 5% biodiesel. If this wasn't the case, I'd run 2 stroke oil as a lubricity additive.

That's it.

+1 great stuff!

Every car I've switched to Amsoil I've noticed upon start-up, the tach revs to a slightly higher RPM for idle then comes down to the normal idle RPM. I'm assuming it is because the engine parts are moving much easier with synthetic lubrication.

I've read that synthetic oils were created by the Nazis in WWII. With the Allies bombing their oil production facilities into oblivion, they were forced to come up with an oil substitute. Abandoned German tanks filled with synthetic oil were found 40 years later and the engines started right up!!!

Years back I took a tour of a Helicopter maintenance facility belonging to the Air National Guard. If memory serves me right, the maintenance guy showed me the ins and outs of a Black Hawk helicopter. He said each turbine jet engine costs $750,000. He said they ran them on synthetic oil and NEVER changed the oil. I figure if it is good enough for $750,000 jet turbines,, it is good enough for my thirty year old diesel!!!

Dang, wish I knew that - my two fill ups in Oregon this last trip got a double dose of lubricity as I threw in the usual 2-stroke oil 200:1 as usual too.

If I remember correctly, the Huey's used synth oil & the crew chief pulled oil samples and sent them back to the States. The results were used as the basis for oil changes. The thing to remember, turbines are a bit different than diesels with regard to lubricants & their contaminants.

I like synth oils, but I get good results for winter starts w/dino oil, anti-gel, block heat & a really BIG battery.

A double dose is better than no dose.

I have a large stock of MX2T two stroke oil. Very very light red tint, doesn't show up in gasoline when mixed. I've doubled up the dose just to be sure more than once.

I'd be VERY cautious about using a red tinted fuel additive. All you need is for someone to suspect you of using nontaxed off road diesel in your car and you get to pay a $10,000 fine.

I don't use MX2T in my diesel, only the chainsaws and a generator. Even at 16:1 ratio, it still doesn't show up in gasoline. Even if I were to use it in my diesel, I wouldn't be worried about it showing up at a 100+:1 ratio.

That said, MX2T has been discontinued, I'm running on hoarded stock and not looking forward to the day I need to figure out a replacement. If I have to add two stroke oil to my diesel, it'll be whatever the least expensive stuff Wally World carries happens to be. Or vegetable oil, which I've done. A gallon per tank sure quieted things down while I was trouble shooting.

Only additive ever is/was ATF in the fuel tank. Cut down smoke & a little bit more power.

I have a 2007 E320 Bluetec, would you recommend Liqui Moly Super Diesel?
I drive short distances in the city and have been getting EGR valve alerts, (check engine light). If I drive a long distance at about 80MPH the check engine light goes off.
The dealer just recommended a long drive to clean out the gunk; or pay $3,400+ for them to manually clean the valve.
